On February 18, the 7th stream of the Blockchain Lawyers supplementary education program “Legal Basis and Legal Practices of Working with Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Projects” took place in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The program was created by law firms “Efficient Business Resources” and “IT Technology” and is held in the PRUE named after G.V. Plekhanov.
Lawyers and attorneys from different cities of Russia from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, colleagues from Belarus, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine signed up for training in a new stream.
By tradition, the first lesson for BCL students began with a historical tour of the Duma factions, after which students took part in a round table.
During the event, BCL trainees were given an overview of the issues of regulating the digital economy, in particular, together with experts, discussed the draft laws regulating blockchain technologies, cryptocurrency, ICO / STO, smart contracts and mining, including dismantling the issues of combining key innovative development forces government, business and science – to introduce the phenomena of the digital economy in the legal field.
Dmitry Sazonov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development, and Entrepreneurship, noted that the development of modern digital competencies among lawyers is a prerequisite for the successful development of the digital economy in harmony with the law
“It is gratifying that the teaching in the framework of the BCL course is built on a purely practical basis – the current experts in the environment of cryptocurrency and blockchain conduct classes on their core competencies. So, students are invited to explore the subtleties of creating a business and taxation in the field of cryptocurrency and blockchain in various countries of the world. For technical problems of creating blockchain products, students are offered qualified programmer support, as an understanding of working with the blockchain is necessary. It is also planned to hold lectures on how not to get involved in criminal money laundering schemes. ”
“Today in Russia there is no special legislation, but there are different positions of regulatory bodies. For example, recently the Ministry of Justice declared that in our country special regulation of cryptocurrency is not needed at all since at the moment crypto currency is considered as other property. In addition, there are a lot of disputes related to the final drafts of the draft laws “On the CFA”, “On Amendments to the Civil Code”, “On Crowdfunding” – it can be assumed that until the legal nature of digital assets is determined and certainty in law enforcement. Under such circumstances, businesses and citizens will not be able to predict the consequences of the use/acquisition of digital assets. ”

BCL has been training lawyers for a year, helping them understand new legal relationships that arise in all branches of law with the introduction of advanced technologies.
After graduation, many graduates are involved in legal support of blockchain projects and open their own business in this area.
